Domain Creation, the primordial act, all existence that follows
Alignment Dogon Sacred
Weakness None in absolute terms, but Amma's creation is vulnerable to disorder introduced by Ogo
Counter Ogo; chaos; entropy. Not an opponent but the necessary principle of disruption within creation
Key Act In the beginning, Amma existed in a state of pure potentiality. From within himself, Amma created a clay ball and threw it into the void. The clay ball became the earth. From the friction of creation, the sun and moon were born. Amma then breathed life into the earth, creating all things. The Dogon describe the universe as having genitalia (yes, this is explicit in their cosmology), and the universe itself engages in cycles of fertility and reproduction. Amma is the ultimate potter, the ultimate artist, constantly shaping and reshaping existence. Every act of creation is also an act of violence -- you must destroy potential to manifest actuality
Theological Significance Amma represents the creative act itself. Unlike some creator deities who set the universe in motion and then withdraw, Amma remains active, involved, shaping. The universe is not static but constantly being remade through Amma's will. The Dogon conception of creation is dynamic, sexual, and material rather than ethereal
