In Mandaean cosmology, Hayyi Rabbi did not create the material world (Ginza Rabba). He is the source of all light, spirit, and true life. He dwells in the World of Light (‘Alma d-Nhura), beyond matter, time, and suffering. Hayyi Rabbi is approached not through creation or law but through gnosis (knowledge) transmitted via Manda d-Hayyi, the divine revealer (Book of John). Unlike the Christian or Jewish God, Hayyi Rabbi is NOT identified with the God of Genesis. That inferior creator is Ptahil (Şinasi Gündüz). The Mandaean priesthood serves Hayyi Rabbi through the Masbuta, weekly baptism in running water. Those who receive gnosis and are baptized weekly can eventually ascend to the World of Light after death (Divan Abatur).
Manda d-Hayyi (“Knowledge of Life”) is the supreme revealer sent from Hayyi Rabbi (Ginza Rabba). In some texts, he functions as the divine Logos or Word — with one critical difference: he is NOT identified with Jesus. Manda d-Hayyi is the knowledge itself, the salvific gnosis that awakens the soul to its divine origin and teaches the path of ascent through the heavens back to the World of Light (Book of John). He is served through sacred formulas, the Masbuta, and study of the Ginza. The name means “Knowledge of Life” — not intellectual knowledge but transformative, soteriological gnosis (Charles Häberl).
