“He chose the Worst Mind.” — Yasna 30:6

Lore: Aka Manah (“Evil Mind” or “Evil Purpose”) is the direct opposite of Vohu Manah. Where Vohu Manah fills the mind with divine truth, Aka Manah fills it with doubt, temptation, confusion, and evil thoughts. He does not attack the body — he attacks the mind. He is the daeva of intellectual corruption, the one who whispers that evil is good, that lies are truth, that selfishness is wisdom. He is the most insidious of the daevas because his battlefield is internal.

Parallel: → The concept of demonic temptation of the mind. The New Testament idea that Satan or demons can place thoughts in your mind (Matthew 4 — the temptation of Jesus; 2 Corinthians 4:4 — “the god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers”) echoes the Aka Manah doctrine. The idea of a specific spiritual being whose job is to corrupt thinking is Zoroastrian.
