“Through Vohu Manah, the Good Mind, Zarathushtra first perceived the truth of Ahura Mazda.” — Yasna 28:1

Lore: Vohu Manah (“Good Mind” or “Good Purpose”) is the first and highest of the Amesha Spentas. He is the being through whom Ahura Mazda communicates his revelation — it was Vohu Manah who appeared to the prophet Zarathushtra at age 30, led him to the divine council, and revealed the truth of Ahura Mazda’s religion. He protects animals in the physical world and governs the faculty of righteous thought in the spiritual world. His opposition is Aka Manah, the Evil Mind.

Parallel:Gabriel. The angel who delivers divine revelation and appears to prophets. Gabriel appeared to Daniel, to Zechariah, to Mary — the same role Vohu Manah plays for Zarathushtra. The pattern of “divine being appears to prophet to reveal God’s message” was established here.
