She is NOT the “sinful woman” of Luke 7 or Mary of Bethany (that conflation is a medieval error by Pope Gregory I, corrected by the Catholic Church in 1969). She was a woman delivered from demons who became the first witness of the most important event in Christianity.


His prayer for his killers echoed Jesus’ words on the cross. Saul of Tarsus held the coats of those who stoned him. Some theologians believe Stephen’s prayer was answered in Paul’s conversion.


Tradition says Lazarus never smiled again after being raised, because he had seen the reality of death. The authorities wanted to kill him because a living dead man is impossible to argue with.


Jesus said: “Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist” (Matt 11:11). Yet he also said “the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he” — a paradox the theologians are still working on.
