God | Inuit

The moon deity in Inuit tradition; a male figure (unlike most moon deities); controls the tides, weather, fertility, and the souls of the dead; his lantern lights the arctic night. Aningaaq chases his sister Malina across the sky in a story of violation and flight — their endless pursuit creates the cycle of light and darkness. He is a watcher and judge of hunters, rewarding the skilled and punishing the wasteful.

Parallels: Sin (Mesopotamian male moon god), Thoth (Egyptian — male moon and wisdom), Khonsu (Egyptian — moon god); Cain-and-Abel dynamic with Malina See also: Malina, Sedna, Angakkuq
