God | Shinto

God of the moon; quarreled with Amaterasu and now lives separately from her in the sky, which is why day and night are apart. His defining act is the murder of the food goddess Uke Mochi — killed in disgust for producing food from her bodily orifices — which caused Amaterasu to banish him forever from her presence.

Parallels: Selene/Hecate (Greek), Thoth (Egyptian), Sin (Mesopotamian); Cain (exiled after violence against a fellow being) See also: Amaterasu, Izanagi and Izanami
